Nina Senior ~ The Ballerina

Nina the senior has many unique looks.. but one of them will be The Ballerina...

lighting for the back ground light was the AB1600 with 64 PLM with yellow Gel @ 1/3 power about 20 feet away from nina..

and the front lighting was elinchrom with a deep octa boomed by mother @ 6 feet away @ 1.3 power

Rai ! Congrats to the new purchase.. be prepared to gain muscles on your arm being it is a heafty peice of glass..

also if you are out of focus and then focus.. and feel the glass move your whole camera body around.. it is normal... haha.. i couldn't believe it either... haha..

then i gripped my camera and all is well.. that extra weight helps stablizes the shutter finger shakes ..

your photo is so cool and fun and fresh..

and thanks Guys for the ones that commented on the Ballerina photo... i hope mother buys this one as a huge print.. (more reasons for me to set up a good quality shot for the home run.. )

ugh. I just realized that the focus ring on my lens is stuck. I can turn it if i really want to, but it's tight. Luckily Newegg is letting me exchange it despite me being three days over the return period.

Ouch! My only question is are you sure it is not in the "FTM Off" mode? As in, it has to have the shutter button half-pressed for FTM to work (that is if the AF switch is On).

OK, but when you try to turn the focus ring is the lens set to MF? Or, if not, are you activating focus with a half-press of the shutter button?

Not your typical portrait shoot. Brown paper bag courtesy of Smithfield's BBQ and my wife's awesome paint job. I will shoot some more dramatic shots on Halloween but I felt I had to get some early shots in case my daughter destroyed the bag before then. If you are wondering about the face... my daughter wanted Spongebob to look scary.

working with Ashley's senior photos.. but clearly she is not the standard Senior being she is a rep for my photography..

so something edgy, with a touch of glam, and motion is what we came up with.

we had her friend Megan to help hold the Elinchrom quadra with the Deep Octa for Key about 7 feet away..

and for the back lighting was the Color Red (requested by Ashley) with a single 580 EXII @ 1/64 power

Well, here is the deal. For a cropper would I be best suited to buy this lens, the f/1.8 version or another for some portrait shots and candids on a cropper 7D while travelling. I've found a good deal on this lens but it is still rather expensive.

I kind of want a high quality prime to compliment the zoom of the 24-105mm, as I love the prime shallow DOF view so much. Note that if I were to buy this lens it would be a used copy for this rather long holiday only, pending funds, whlie a f/1.8 would stay forever.

JUST got this lens today. I use this Owl for test shots and to ward off woodpeckers. This is shot @ 1.4. I used AF, with focus points on center column of the owl's body.

Aurielle ~ 4 Seasons ~ The Splendor of Fall

Well i have finished my Fall shot...

it has been a long long time coming to finish the series..

i just have be crazy busy this Fall and have not had time to do anything for my self..

But with Aurielle's engagement shoot lead to us working again gave us an opportunity to do this shot...

hopefully this fulfills the expectations of what the 4 Seasons Fall shot should be..

i wanted some thing Beautiful, Something Strobist Style, with the Phamster Twists..

lighting was pretty simple..

Key Light was an AB1600 with Beauty dish with a grid

back lighting was a Simple Speedlight with an orange red Gel @ 1/2 power about 8 feet up and pointing down about 8 feet away.

Aurielle's mother was pushing the branches inward about 10 feet away to fill in the frame just so.. Thanks Beth !

An Thanks to Aurielle for doing this shoot with me because it was basically pitch black in the woods, and about 40 degrees.. what a trooper !

Pham, your shots are the best. I feel inadequate even using this lens after viewing your work!

Very nice. I like the fact that you got his eyes, nose AND mouth in focus, instead of just the eyes which a lot of people do with this lens. Makes the picture MUCH more appealing IMHO.
