View Full Version : About to buy a POTN Strap

I'm using a part of my stock cheque to buy a POTN strap.
I already chose the color. ;-) That was the easy part.
But there are more choices to make.
What would you recommend?
- buy extra connectors or not?
- if yes, what type? Pro Loop, 3/8 webbing, or swivel hook?
Thanks for your insight!

The most important option is the forum donation one!
I would only think you would need extra connectors if you were moving it from one body to another. I've had mine for quite some time now, first on the 300D then moved it to the 30D.

I have 2 straps and I love them, especially for long shoots, the heavy equipment is a lot easier to hold. But I don't have any of the attachments. If you hold your camera in your hands most of the time, some people here just take off the neckstrap part all together for that. Can't you just get the basic neckstrap and then see how it goes?

Yes, but If I want additional connectors, I can't get them because I am an "international customer" (ie not located in the USA) unless I buy them together with the strap. Or for a rather high additional cost. So it's better to get them immediately, if I would need them. Therefore this question.
I think I'll just order the strap (and make a forum donation, of course). Tx for the replies.

I wish my extra straps hadn't gotten lost in the mail. :(
And Phil, can you reply to my last email?

The POTN/Op-Tech strap is awesome, you'll love it.
Non-slip, comfy neoprene shoulder strap. No metal bits to trash your camera body. The shoulder pad disconnects to have just a wrist strap - or present minimal straps to get in your way when hand-holding or using a tripod.
Works with and without the E-1 grip, too.

Anyone know where to get the Optech extra connectors? I see the whole strap several places, but I just need an extra set of connectors.

how sturdy are those connectors???
I use similar ones on my chalk bag for climbing and find it doesn't take much force to disconnect them (my chalkbag is a lot lighter than my camera)

They seem pretty sturdy to me - I've got a 1D2N w/70-200mm f/2.8L IS hanging from it regularly...
To be honest though, the thin straps do make me a little nervous from time to time.

Heh. I'm in Canada and want to order one, but can only pay via money order. Perhaps another Canadian can order one for me and I'll pay him by sending him a money order? At the least it'de be doing a good thing for the forum (donation.) :D.

Near Toronto. I don't open a paypal cause of reasons beyond me.
