Sigma 1.4TC awaiting me at home this evening - just 3 days to reach from Hong Kong. Bought from Kea-photo on e bay new for £97. Package marked as gift but not sure there is duty on lenses anyway.
Sigma 150 macro is not listed as a compatible lens in the leaflet but Sigma's website states it is. So far I can state that it fits and works in AF but if it fails to focus, eg in poor light, it gets stuck - a turn of the focus ring and it is off hunting again. So a minor irritation and I presume it wont happen in good light.
Now I can fill the frame with 1.5cm from 6" and proceed to infinity and my Canon TC can stay with the lenses it is meant for.
Quick shot with flash at f6.3

Hope thats a plastic grasshopper :)- TC obviously works.
Why the TC rather than ext tubes?- working distance and lens length ?

Excellent RM - I see you bought from Mike @ keaphoto as well, he's an excellent guy. The shot looks good IQwise, the AF mishap doesn't surprise me. The Sigma 150 isn't the best with AF at the best of times (but then, neither are other dedicated macro lenses).

Brian - the TCs make it very cumbersome with this lens. The 1.4x TC gives you a bit more magnification and keeps the working distance the same. Kenko tubes aren't exactly the best at locking securely together imho. The drop in IQ will be barely noticeable I suspect. I'm looking at doing the same...when I pull the finger out of my you know what and order the TC lol...

you are right there the Sigma 150 is my slowest focusing lens by far and hopeless in poor light.

racketman: That is one awesome Grasshopper shot!!!!! I can't get over the detail in the eye, The texture and color of the body are superb!!!! :D :D.....Congratulations on getting the new toy..... Looks good to me... I always manual focus macro so that wouldn't bother me either..... Take care....Alex
