Hi
I live in South Africa and I have a friend from California / Sanfranisco who is coming to visit me in South Africa ( approx 12/1/2004 ). I would like him to purchase a Sigma 24-70mm Ex lens for my Canon 10D.

Could you please give me some information where he can get the best price for me. ? Some contact details etc.

Thanks for the help.

I can share with you my pricing practices:

I go to www.pricegrabber.com so comparision shop.

If someone can beat www.http://www.bhphotovideo.com/ SUBSTANCIALLY (and I mean substancially) I will risk purchasing from them. Otherwise, B&H gets my business.

That said, since your friend lives in San Francisco, he may want to do some price shopping down by the Wharf to see if he can get some deals on imported products. Since you are in South Africa, you might as well get the IMPORTED discount (as opposed to USA warranties) and you aren't likely to be returning the product for service any time soon.

He's coming out in a year? You are one patient person to wait that long for a lens.

Actually, both Samy's and Canoga Camera are in Southern California, and if your friend buys it from them, you'll end up paying shipping and CA sales tax (7.75%). If your friend buys it online from someone like B&H, Adorama, or 17th Street, you'll at least avoid the sales tax.

At least he's got a friend to bring it. Here, in Denmark, our best option is to buy from e.g. B&H. On top of their prices inclusive shipment, we have to pay import tax (4.2%) and on top of that sales tax (25%). If I e.g. buy stuff for $500 and we have to pay $50 for shipment - I end up paying $717.50.

Yet it still pays of, as the dealers in DK doesn't have half the equipment and the prices are often twice the US price (meaning $1000 in the above example).

And yes, I'd definitely recommend B&H :-)
