Photoshop. There are many different approaches. Just ripping out the color is one of them, but the rsults will be muddy. If you scroll back a bit here in this forum you'll find a few threads...

I don't have tghe link, but there is a method developed by "Russel Brown" that is supposed to be the hands down best way of converting to black and white.

Actually, this is the link that really tells the story:

That's a good link.

I had several diff B&W actions which did a good job, one in particular gave 10 different variations of B&W-iteness. Unfortunately I lost that particular one upon an unfortunate partitioning mishap, and can't find them again and I don't recall where I got it. If anyone knows this 10 B&W action, and where I can download it, or has it and can send it to me, I'd be very very grateful.

Thanks Mike. I picked up Johny's B&W Package V2.0 from that thread, had V1.1 already. Its a great package ( http://www.jakerlund.net/page.php?id=6 ) ~ highly recommend it.

The one I had before though was a bit different - it gave 10 diff variations on intensity of channels - red, green and blue, with soft blur thrown in as a couple of options.
