I know a lot has been posted regarding lenses but here goes another. Has anyone got experience with the Sigma 100-300 F4.

I have been agonizing betweed Canon 70-200 f2.8, Canon 100-400 f4.5, Sigma 700-200 2.8, and now I read good things about the Sigma 100-400 F4. It appears to be about the same weight and size as the Canon 70-200 IS and has a constant aperture of f4.0.

I would be using this for wildlife on the trail for the most part. I realize that IS would be nice to have but my thinking now is that for the longer lenses a tripod is in order anyway. I do have a Canon 28-135 IS which I keep mounted most of the time.

Net,
The above was shot with the Sigma 100-300 F4
ISO400
F4
1/750 sec
10D
Zoom setting 260mm
It is a super lens for the price. Not too heavy. Nice thing is the internal focusing, lens does not extend. With the lens chade on it is an impressive piece of work.
Combine it with the Sigma 1.4TC and you have a great wildlife setup.
I have even used mine as a portrait lens indoos with natural light. Easy to hold at higher speeds but a monopod or tripod is definately needed at lower speeds. I love this lens and do not regret the purchase one pixel.
