Troy--First off, the photos that are posted here are very good. Second, it sounds like you and I are experiencing some of the same thing. Saturday I took about 700 photos at a small college football game. I can tell you that I was totally depressed after I downloaded the photos and looked through the bunch. There were so many OOF shots where I had missed my target with the center point focus and there were others where I hadn't given the camera time to focus. My first impression was that my skills seem to be getting worse rather than better with time.

After going though the photos and weeding out the bad ones and then getting my horizons straight and doing a little cropping, I realized that I really did have a good set of photos from the game to go along with all the crap. I just get so frustrated because I want every shot to be a keeper and maybe that's just not realistic but it is simply something that we try to inch closer and closer to with experience. I guess I need to remember that great photography isn't something you can just buy with a Mastercard and I need to keep working on my skills and knowledge if I want to take really great photos.

Well said littlefish,

Overall, the photos featured are excellent...the young guys are getting better than when I was their age...we were just learning basic soccer skills in Jr. HS...

These pics show these fellas really going at it with a purpose...

great captures...each photo is a story to itself...congratulations...

Nice captures.

LittleFish, whenever I see such high figures from a single game I always wonder how someone can take so many pictures. If you are getting lots of out of focus pictures my suggestion would be to slow down, take time for the camera to achieve focus and then shoot but don't just hold down the shutter release and let the camera go hell for leather.

Just my thoughts.

Wow...these shots are excellent, especially #2!!! The Sigma 120-300 is next on my wish list, along with the 30D. I'm hoping that with some more practice and better gear, I'll be able to get more keepers like you.:)
