Hi,

My first digicam was a Canon S30. When I bought it, I had to return 3 of them because of dead/stuck lcd pixels (right out of the box).

THen, I upgraded to the Canon G3, and I had to return the first one because of a dead lcd/stuck pixel (right out of the box).

I am plannng to order a Digital Rebel online possibly instead of buying locally. I wonder, what do you think the chances are that I get one with a dead/stuck lcd pixel?

Same thing happed to my laptop there is one purple pixel that never changs colors. LCDs are very sensitive and damn expensive.

I work at a best buy in the digital camera dept. and usually have about 2 to 3 cameras returned a week due to "dead pixels."

Luck of the draw i guess??

It happens. If it does, you can return the camera or send it to Canon to have the dead pixels mapped out. On EVERY sensor on EVERY camera there are dead pixels. If you don't see them then the mapping is perfect and no pixels dies since the camera was built. If you see dead pixels, then some died since the camera was built.

I have not had a proble with the D Rebel yet. However with my old Olympus E10 I had a problem with stuck/hot pixels. It really didn't bother me as I just cloned them out in Photoshop. Then one day I found out that the E10 had a setting that allowed my to use pixel mapping. When I used the pixel mapping function all dead pixels went away. Does anybody know if the Rebel has this function?

Actually, the problem I had was with dead/stuck lcd pixels, not dead cmos pixels.
The problem doesnt show up on the final image. It's mainly a cosmetic one, but when you buy a $1000 camera, it's not acceptable, atleast in my opinion.
Good thing is that Futureshop has a 30 day no hassle refund policy.
Although, even then, the Photo Manager made a HUGE fuss when I brought back my 3rd S30. He almost wasn't going to exchange it. He even said they didnt have another new one to give me. So, I said, "Well I will just return it then and go to another FS". He quickly changed his mind and mysteriously found another new one. Hehe

Actually, in their defense, Canon does state (on the S30 and G3 manuals anyway), that dead/stuck lcd pixels are common and not covered under warranty (or something similar). That again is why I like FS. I can return as many as I want within a 30 day period.
However, if I buy online, I can save provincial sales tax, which is almost $90.

Oops. Yes you did say that. Yeah that wouldn't bug me too much. I don't look at the LCD that close anyway, but I do agree that I'd send it back too.
