program to automatically transfer pics to computer?

Hi, I have a powershot pro1 and I use it for close up photography. I am after a program that will allow me to leave the canon plugged in to the USB port on computer, and be able to take photos using the camera as per usual and instantly copy the pictures to the pc as I take them.

Surely this must be possible as it's so annoying to have to keep unplugging and plugging in the camera to transfer the pics.

Any advice appreciated.

Welcom to the forum. The Canon Software that came with your camera should be able to do this for you. I know that it will do it for Canon's Digital SLR's, but I'm not sure about your Powershot. Have you looked on the Canon website?

Probably the best way of transferring your shots onto the computer is by using a card reader. Then you just need to take the card out of the camera and insert it into the card-reader to get the shots onto your computer. Fairly straight-forward...

The card reader is the easiest and fastest way to go...plus it saves alot of battery power on your camera...

^^ he is thinking about using his computer as the memory card more or less, so no worries of space really.

If your constantly taking your card out now to transfer pics, ithink you need a larger memory card, since USB cables are limited in length, unless you plan to carry a laptop strapped to your back every where you go to take pics....

thanks guys. The canon software seems to make me use the computer as the viewfinder instead of the camera LCD. Is there a way to make it just automatically copy and view on the pc?

I have tried a card reader, but its still too frustrating to have to pull the card out and stick it in the reader. I end up having to take about 20 shots at once then look at them on the computer and pick the best one, whereas if I had the system I want I could just keep shooting until I get a good pic.
