I went up to Crater Lake in Oregon this weekend to take some pictures and enjoy myself. I have never actually been to Crater Lake, which is kind of rediculous seeing as I live a mere 2.5 hours away. For those of you who don't know, Crater Lake was a 12,000 foot volcano up until 7,700 years ago. It erupted so much material during one volcanic episode, that it pretty much hollowed the interior of the volcano. It could not support it's own weight so it collapsed forming a huge crater almost six miles across. It filled with water over the past couple thousand years, resulting in the deepest lake in America and the seventh deepest in the world. It is truly an amazing sight. The water is also some of the clearest in the world, with a visibility of 140 feet deep. This is due to the fact that the lake's only source of water is rain or snow, there are no inlets or outlets. Anyway on to the pictures.
This first pic is probably my favorite, this is looking northwest from the caldera rim.

This second picture is essentially the same, just taken vertically. I can't decide whether I like this or the first better.

Here's a pic I took of my home volcano Mt. shasta, about 15 minutes after I left home. Excuse the blurriness, this was taken while moving.

I liked this pic because of the reflections of the clouds.

Just another view of the lake, I liked this one for it's simplicity.

Is it a recreational lake, boating swimming etc? Looks like no one is on it. The photos are stunning.

Thanks guys for your compliments, it really is an amazing place. I've really developed a love for landscape photography over this past year or so. I still have a lot to learn. I feel bad for posting all my pictures here as I no longer have a canon camera, but I love this forum.
Skrim17: It isn't a recreational lake at all. There is only one trail to get down to the lake, and there's no way you could get a boat down it. You can swim if you want but it's really cold water and the weather was pretty chilly as well (50s in the day, 20s at night).
BobOh: I am not really sure how I am fishing for compliments, the only thing I can possibly see is on number five, like you mentioned. But the fact is that foreground IS blurry due to the fact that I took the picture in a moving vehicle.

Can I please get a higher size of that? I'd really like to set it as my wallpaper. I'm on a 1400x1050 resolution so if it's a widescreen format that you took the pic, 1400x**** would be fine, I can fill the rest of the pic in with black.
And if you can get this can you please PM me with it? Thanks,
-Matt.

Great series. I've been there three times, can't wait to get back. I'm also a big fan of Mt Shasta...one of the prettiest mountains we never hear about.

Thanks again guys, I really appreciate the feedback.

Thanks. Yeah it's pretty weird how Mt. Shasta is not that well known. It's one of the largest stratovolcanoes in the world at over 90 cubic miles, and just 300 feet shorter than Rainier (but a whole lot bigger), AND it has a vertical rise of 11,000 feet from the valley floor, it's simply a beast. I was born and raised in Mt. Shasta and love it to death. After college I moved right back. I know it's gonna blow sometime soon, but oh well, I'll be here until it does.

If I lived close to THAT kind of scenery I would be there every day, of course, I would have to go frequently to manage to get photos like that. Every one of them is very nice.

I'm with Dimitri on this one, two and four strike me the most out of a great series, although I really like the simplicity of the 5th one (expect for the blurry tree in the foreground). Good stuff!
