I have a 580EX on order finally. Getting it direct from Canon at cost, no mark-up :) (Nice having connections like that). It's supposed to come in this week, but I'm not sure which day. I'm excited, but don't you just hate waiting for that new piece of equipment to get into your hands?

I guess it's either your time or your money. Coulda went to the local camera store, but it woulda cost me a lot of coin to walk out with one in hand. Over $100CDN, so like $1USD :P

Yes. I find it best to distract myself as much as possible. Otherwise you'll be peeping out of the windows all day in anticipation! Maybe take a bike ride or shoot some daytime pic. Good luck and remember; a watched pot never boils!

I was in hell the week we got a new road paved AND I was awaiting the UPS truck. Every time I heard screeching brakes I thought it was my driver, when it turned out to be the paver or dump truck. My office is upstairs. I got a lot of exercise that day.

Ya I'm trying to distract myself. Getting back to work helps (we had a Thanksgiving long weekend here in Cananda). Now I'll just have to preoccupy myself in the evenings.

Ha, that's amusing. I get the same way when a package is supposed to arrive. It's worse than waiting for christmas when I was a kid. :P

Yes, waiting is no fun.. Did it all yesterday waiting for my BG-E2 to arrive. Normally the truck shows up at around 11:30am but he didn't get here till almost 6:00pm! Kept running to the door and looking out... heh.
I just bought a EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS USM and a EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM last week....
And then I find this rumor that Canon will be starting their rebates on the 15th....
And yet somehow I refuse to return these lenses and wait till the 15th and buy them again in order to get rebates.... I. Am. An. (Impatient) Idiot.

Well, I've been waiting three months for a car that is over a month late. I'm getting it tomorrow though: yippee!!!
And my BG-E3 isn't here yet in spite of the fact that I ordered it from Germany late on Friday night when I was a little intoxicated (damn you eBay!!). How unreasonable is that?

I can add myself back into this waiting-room mix. According to FedEx and UPS' tracking websites, I should have 2GB of memory for my computer and a roll of 13"x32' paper for my printer sometime tomorrow.

I hope you don't get hit too bad with duty charges and maybe even brokerage fees, or else your "sweet deal" might go sour :(.
Stav, I always make sure when I order I have it shipped with a fast service. I've had less problems this way, and if your getting it shipped from the States express is a must or else brokerage fees just kill you.

The worst wait I ever had was when I ordered my 1Ds Mk2 from B&H. I don't know why I decided to go cheap on shipping, but when I saw that I qualified for 'Free Shipping (UPS 3-5 Day), I figured I'd save a couple bucks. Heck...it would only take a day or two longer than 2nd Day Air.
As I recall, I ordered the camera on a Thursday. On Friday, B&H closes down for the Sabbath, and UPS evidently doesn't pick up orders over the weekend. My camera finally got a tracking number on Monday, and departed New York. On Thursday, it showed up in Los Angeles, and on Friday, it arrived in the Palm Springs Terminal and was 'Out for Delivery.'
I cleared my calendar and waited at home. And waited. And waited. And.....Well, you get the picture. I kept checking the tracking information, and it kept telling me it was 'Out for Delivery.' At approximately 9:00 pm, the message changed, saying the driver was unable to locate the parcel. Yikes!!
The next morning (Saturday) I was at the UPS terminal at 6:00, and the search was on. At one point, I think I had 6 different people looking for it. Eventually, they found it, and I had my camera.
I don't care what I'm buying now. It's 2nd day air or nothing. I just bought a Mac Pro from B&H, and shipping was over $100.00. Compared to the cost of a nervous breakdown, it was a bargain, and I still saved money compared to buying it locally.

I think you should decide on shipping with some sort of ratio on how much your item costed. If it's a cheap $10 card reader or something that you don't need urgently, going with free shipping would be the only logical answer. If your orderng a camera for several thousand dollars, I'de think 1-2 day air is the only way to go, for at the minimum peace of mind.

That's generally what I do. If it's a relatively inexpensive item, I'll buy it locally and pay the sales tax. More expensive items (where the sales tax exceeds the cost of shipping), I'll usually buy online. I make the determination on a case basis. The computer was a no-brainer. The camera should have been.
Lessons learned.

Heh, for me, sometimes it's all about convenience. I bought my cpu, ram, ngear flash card reader, usb flash drive and 2x packs of 50cd spindles a couple days ago from a Canadian site. Now you save 8% in tax because of the province they are located in, but I think some stores downtown are a little cheaper price wise, and shipping was about $30. I would think the price might be a little cheaper then buying it locally, but who knows. I really just bought it off the site because I didn't want to have to go downtown (45mins-1hour each way), and I paid the extra money so I got it Wednesday (order placed Saturtday.)

Wow they actually put that up for the delivery status? I had a motherboard I ordered for a computer vanish on the way being delivered. I had to fight for 3 weeks to get them to ship a new one because the shipping company wouldn't admit they lost it (they kept saying next plane coming in probably has it on it). Without the company admiting they lost it the company I ordered from wouldn't ship a new one. I was on the phone fighting for a couple of weeks, and finally got the company to ship a new motherboard. The shipping company never admitted it was lost. I was just lucky that I was do'n about $3000-$4000 of buisness with the company a year because if I hadn't been I'm not sure they would have budged on shipping a new motherboard.

My paper arrived at about 9:30AM but since it's just paper...no big excitement there.

Yeah, UPS should really post satellite images of the delivery truck en route to your shipping address along with the driver's cell and home telephone numbers.
