View Full Version : Strategies for dealing with limited disk space?

Right now, I have around 3 gigs of original photos I'd like to have displayed on my site.

I actually don't want to display the full-size originals, though, so I'm wondering what is best, given my limited (~0.7 gig) diskspace:
- Uploading the full-size photos, and then just deleting those full-size photos on the server.
- Resizing them on my personal computer, and then uploading them.
- Something else?

What would you recommend and why?

One of EE's special features is that it can server EACH photo size from any path, this means also from any SERVER. With very large collections of photos, or whenever you serve large photos, it is wise to spread the sizes to other servers because if pipe gets stuck no server speed or app speed can remedy that.

So, for big sizes you could get some cheap server space, just check that bandwidth (monthly transfer) is generous and that it has a big hard drive and ftp - all other features are 'moot point'. EE will resize and upload to any number of servers depending how you have set up path system.

Ah, that's an excellent idea! I'm currently paying a mere $30 a year to Fotki for unlimited photo storage, so if I can figure out how to point EE to multiple Fotki directories, I'll be all set :)
