View Full Version : Okay, more noob issues

- I can't figure out how to change "New Owner" to my name.
- I'm unclear as to what files I'd need to edit to have my EE gallery integrated into my site (I use a three column setup, as seen on this sample page (http://www.smilezone.com/blogs/)). I know XHTML and CSS, but practically nothing about php. I tried adding the sidebars in the headera and footer HTML in the EE editor, but none of the php includes were processed, and stuff definitely looked pretty funky. And for the record, I'm aiming for a two column layout (same look as the rest of my site, minus the right-side pane).
- I decided to put my photos (main and thumbs) in a directory within my WWW but outside EE. Is that okay? It seems to work fine, but I occasionally get warning messages about path locations in the EE admin area.
- On my EE gallery page, it says "Exhibition was launched 10/12/03, Sunday" Huh?
- I have very few photos loaded at this point, but I'm wondering if it's possible to show more detailed stats publicly or privately (most popular group, most popular exhibition, most popular photos this past week, etc.)
- Is there any to link to categories via IPTC? I'd like to do as much offline sorting as I can, since I will ultimately have thousands of photos online and dread having to categorize them one-by-one in the EE editor. What I'd like to do, optimally, is assign categories via IPTC (using IMatch), and then have EE recognize this and automatically assign photos to specified categories.
- Is it possible to set up 'home pages' by category instead of exhibition?
I know, I know, I'm full of questions. Ack!

Click the name and edit it.

misc settings footer and header code area overrride lang/xxx/footer.php and header.php
if there is no lang/xxx/header.php header.php from gallery root is used.
use header and footer for stuff that goes around all pages, individual pages are handled by templates which are available so far for photo and list pages (totally free placement of items)
templates containg mixed php and html - let me know if you need help on that.
misc settings and group editor has index page look settings.

That is ok. If you have problems in editor, check you relative path settings in path setup.

Exhibition editor lets you edit that.

I'll add those items to wish list.
Photo popularity is shown e.g. by counter graph output on list page.

IPTC and XMP categories are used in next version. Soon.

No, not now. You can sort by category on list page. EE 1.5 has data embedding system which will be completed in future to include all sorts of listings and items you can customize to build your own index (or any other) pages.

Oh my goodness! Now I feel stupid :D. It didn't look like an edit box, so I didn't try typing in it.

Indeed, I had specified the relative path incorrectly.

Wonderful! Am I correct in assuming, then, that if I have photos tagged with categories via IPTC, that when they're uploaded EE will then automatically create any categories as necessary?
And this raises another interesting question. Let's say I decide to change some category assignments in IPTC (offline) and then re-upload the photos, which are identical other than the changed IPTC info. Can it be possible for EE to simply change the category assignments without creating duplicate photos? :)
Thanks for all your help!

BTW: I searched through your BIG www, but could not find a EE-gallery. Do you have one or still in preparation?
Best wishes
Markus
