This is one spectacular cloud formation! Amazing!
I think it gives the whole picture a National Geographic photo-look.
You might try to straighten the horizon as It seems not really straight.
Excellent photo though.

Very simple picture, but I love how it's turned out.
That cloud is awesome.

Thanks, all. Suedezu, I was looking so much at how the cloud parallels the shore I hadn't noticed the horizon. Thanks for pointing it out.
Here's another from the next morning.

Hi txdude35;
You hiked up twice? Once was enough for me...
#1 is moody, but IMHO #2 is a stunner.
Cheers;

Thanks, Lee. My wife and I go for a conference about every year, and I try to get up there 2-3 times early in the week. With the time change from my home I'm up at 4am anyway, and as you know, the view is amazing.

Here's one from a few minutes earlier than the first shot that isn't quite so dark.

Overall i think i like the last one .... but the first one has a broody quality to it, which also makes the cloud so much more menacing looking. The soft warm light in #2 is beautiful. You should just make a whole series of sunrises and cloud formations from that same spot!

Great shots...
What I find so funny is that I am from El Paso (Your location) and I work at the Diamond Head Lighthouse just below the rim (You visited). You probably saw the lighthouse didn't you?

Thanks for the kind comments. I've been kinda tied up lately (divorcing and moving) so I hadn't checked my control panel.
I appreciate your kind words. I like them all, but I love that dark quality of the first one. The picture doesn't do justice to how beautiful it was standing there watching it unfold.
Dustin-small world, huh? Every time I'm in Hawaii I watch the sunrise from that spot at least a couple of times and have always thought what a great place to work that lighthouse must be. Lucky you.

I like the first one the best. The darkness/moodiness works for me.

Here's a link to a bit larger version. You can view the original by clicking the link at the top of the page after you follow the link. The original is a bit noisy, I'm afraid.
