The MX season is coming to a close this weekend (for me at least!), and then I'll be picking which closed season meetings I'll be attending (I hate getting up early on Sundays!!)

Here's just a selection of my favourites from the meetings I've attended this season;

1. Sidecar action (they are just mad!!!) This was the first meeting I attended this year, and had no idea what was happening, with the camera or the racing!! (Not much has changed in 4 months!)

2. The desert of West Sussex

3. The dust is just as impressive in black & white

4. I'm not showing off, honest!!

5. Get it up!!

6. First corner mayhem!!

7. I just like the fact I have an f2.8 lens

Thats some of my favourites from this seasons SMX. Enjoyable, and no doubt I'll be back for more of the same next year!!

Hopefully armed with a bigger Canon ;)

Oh! 2 and 3 are awesome and I really like #4 because he appears to be looking at the camera, it makes the caption very amusing - at least to me :)

Nice work :)

Nice work :)

The worrying thing is... He was looking at the camera!!!  I had 4 laps of practice standing there, and everytime he popped the front end up and looked at me!!

They are mad those MX racers!!

Thanks for the comments guys

Thanks for posting the pictures. Incredible action in #2. I also like #1, great catch of the body positions of the riders. Any tips on gear protection in those dusty elements? Thanks!

So the camera doesn't look like that??

I gave up with the dust protection. The only real advice I can give is; Don't change lenses, and stand with your back to the wind. Luckily, since I have had the camera, I've not had a major problem with dust on the sensor.

My 75-300 zoom just sucks the dust in, and the front element has some rather large bits of dust on it and it's just not worth the hassle (and expense) to get it professionally cleaned. The 80-200mm (pictured), is being sent off for a service during the "closed" MX season, so it can be in top condition when racing commences.

When I'm out on the track, I make sure I have a rocket blower, lens cleaning tissues and a plastic bag (incase it rains!). I wear a pair of gloves, and I'm glad I did during the summer, with the nice heatwave we had, and all the sweaty hands and dust that was about, they just saved my camera from scratches and dinks.

I know my mate who used to come MX with me (but gave up!!), his menu wheels on his 1Ds make a rather lovely crunching noise after a days motocross.

If you do have a phobia with dust on the digital camera, don't go to motocross! After last weeks meeting (and a sudden down pour), my camera was soaked, I was covered, head to toe, in mud and the only clean bit on the camera was the UV filter, until the plastic bag came off.

We also came up with an idea of finding a wet suit maker locally, and find out how much it would cost to make a neoprene case for the cameras and lenses, and still have full control over the buttons. Something for me to check out in the winter I suppose

Banditloon - Thanks for the "Dust" Pictures. WOW! That's great to hear that you haven't had any major problems with dust on the sensor. Thanks for all the tips of shooting in these conditions and what to bring with you when your out there. I like the glove idea too.

Ebay has some camera protection covers, check out gadgetinfinity in their store. They have some for specific models of cameras. I like your idea of wetsuit material. That is worth checking out.

No, no phobias of dust here. Everything and everyone is usually covered with dust/dirt/mud, and then there is blowing sand... Cross country courses give all, rider and spectator, a little bit of everything.

Really like your last picture, action in the wheel spin and lots of glop! A friend of mine took a great shot of a rider after a race with the goggles removed and everything else covered in mud. The eyes said it all.

Thanks again!
