does anyone here use their own picture style mode?

it's the option that lets you adjust:
Sharpness
Contrast
Saturation
Color tone
Filter effect
Toning effect

I'm trying to get the most out of the camera by maybe tweaking it to get more vivd color and sharper images but dont know where to start. I know for sharpness I can crank the sharpness to a higher value ( I beleive standard is at 4) but what about contrast and saturation? To be honest, i don't even know what saturation is.

help a n00b out please! thanks!

I also just found out I have custom functions. *giggles like a school girl*

I should really do my work instead of doing camera stuff...lol

It would be best to try the different picture styles first so you can become familiar with then. See which style gives you the pictures you like best. Once you've determined that, you can tweak that picture style by, for example, increasing (or decreasing) the color saturation, etc. In order to customize a user defined picture style, you need to select one of the predefined ones to alter. And you won't be able to do that unless you already know what kind of results you can get with the different styles.

unfortunatly all the styles that come on the camera only have adjustments in sharpness =(

maybe I will make a random style today and work off that.

thanks

I think you better check again as I can adjust all the parameters of the built in PicStyles.

Saturation is the strength of colour.

If you're intrerested I use:
Standard & Faithful
Sharpness +6
Contrast -2
rest in middle

Try a shot at ISO1600 with Standard and Faithful then compare them...

I usually run the picture styles on my 30D under user defined and keep the saturation, sharpening, and contrast turn way down, and bring things back as I see fit in post processing.
