As a follow up to my earlier post re visiting Los Angeles, Las Vegas and San Fransisco this coming weekend, I've decided to take the opportunity of my first visit to the States to purchase the Canon 17-40 L lens at USA prices (£600 here in the UK! :x )
A search on the internet shows that Adorama in New York sell it for $675 and includes the lens hood and case. Delivery the Las Vegas will take it up to under $700 (£390).
Has anyone got experience (good or bad) of Adorama? Can anyone suggest another dealer in Los Angeles or Las Vegas as a possible alternative?
Cheers,
Barry

I have purchased 20 or so items from Adorama in 2003. All transactions were perfect and service as great. Some of those purchase were high ticket L glass etc..
Good luck,
Mike

....... or,
B&H
Adorama seems a mixed bag. Some people have great luck (I've had no problems) some have nightmare stories...
By far and away the one single vendor that I hear the most positive feedback is B&H (also in NY)
But in California there is also Canooga camera and Samy's

B & H is the standard by which all others are judged, but Adorama gets pretty good reviews in general. I've purchased from Adorama with no problems.
Barry, be aware that most places (B&H for sure) will not ship to hotels.

I hear that Adorama is reputable. I've bought from B&H with no problems. I've also bought from Keh.com without trouble (and very low shipping costs, though they are pretty close to me).

Adoroma is reputable. They are not one of the fly by night hole in the wall camera shops. I've never heard of any horror stories about them. If you've heard a bad story that simply proves no company or no one is perfect. I've purchased from them several times over the past couple of years.

Adorama is one of the top trusted dealers in the industry with B&H leading the field along with Samys and Canoga. There are a couple of others -- that we just spoke on about a week ago...

:D Thanks for the replies people. B & H have yet to reply to my e-mail but Canoga answered it within minutes. They are in Los Angeles, my first port of call, so, despite having to pay 8.25% tax (strange inter-state US custom this varying sales tax thing!), I'll pay them a personal visit as they won't accept international mail or internet orders - possibly because, as slin100 stated, they don'tpost to hotels.
Once again, thanks for all the advice - at the age of 50 this will be my first time in the States - I'm like a young child on Xmas Eve :D
Cheers all,
Barry

I've had good luck with Adorama, but I've never bought anything this expensive from them.
By the way, everybody includes the hood and case with that lens. That's standard from Canon. I believe they do that with all L lenses.

Barry,
Samy's Camera is also in LA, they have several stores in Southern California. Click on "Stores" to find the locations:
