Hi,
Does anyone else print from Photoshopp ? I've been printing from photoshop for about 8 months now with no problems. I was using an HP printer until Santa brought me the Canon i9100 large format photo printer. I was very thankful to him, but I can't print a hight quality photo from Photoshop. If I select the "plain paper" type I get the quality, but I seem to get horizontal lines through my pictures.
If I use any canon software, I just don't get the quality I'm looking for, because you can't specify DPI.
I think part of the problem is I'm not using Canon paper.
Does anyone have any experiences like this ?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Using high-quality photo paper makes a world of difference. Go to a Staples/etc and get some paper made for that printer. Don't just get any photo paper as you might go wrong. If you get some Canon paper matched to the 9100 then you'll know it correct. Once you get experience and know things are working fine then you could try some of the other 3rd party papers if you want the extra step in quality (if you'll even notice the difference).
The horizontal lines can indicate nozzle clogging. If you're using generic paper (ohmigosh say it's not "copy paper") you can get clogging after a few pages. For generic printing I only use a very high quality (110+ brightness) 24 lb paper. For this almost any quality brand of inkjet paper (not laser) will do. I use HP at about $7-8 a ream.
By using cheap paper even for everyday stuff (B&W and printing web pages etc) you'll waste more money on ink than you saved on paper. This is because you'll have to clean more frequently or throw away a $1 sheet of photo paper because it streaked because you didn't clean the nozzles before printing the good stuff. The 9100 is a very nice printer, so *always* feed it very nice paper.

It would be helpful to know what your settings in Photoshop and the printer driver are. :?:

Thanks for the responses.
Currently I've been printing with HP premium glossy photo paper, 10 mil 64lb and Kodak Premium Picture paper 8 mil 59 lb.
As far as settings go, I basically print at High Quality and set the DPI to 300. I've tried all of the different Paper Types that are listed for the i9100. The highest quality but with lines is when I select "Plain Paper". When I try any of the varying photo paper selections I get different results, all without lines, but none with the same quality.
I guess I just need to try the recommended Canon paper as Canon suggests. I just figured that was a standard marketing angle, but not necessary. I guess I'm wrong

I had always figured that until my brother - with 29 years in the printing industry - taught me differently. Now, for the good stuff, I use the manufacturer's paper. They really do go through a lot of bother to match the ink to the paper. I'm not yet at the level to worry about good 3rd paper (Ilford, etc) so I just get the manufacturer's stuff until I learn which ones work. Considering the price of photo paper I don't think it's worth trying the others. Yet.
In this forum, Longwatcher mentions different effects of different papers on his i960 - http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=22603. It's interesting to see the differences from someone who obviously has done the testing.
