My friend got a new puppy recently - a black lab named Vixen. As many of you know, photographing black dogs can be quite challenging.

Here are a couple I thought were cute... Although, I think the background where the pup is laying down is a bit distracting. Thoughts?

Cute shots. I find the blown out white spot on the pup's nose #1 to be far more distracting than the background in #2. On #2, I'd just do some burning to darken the really bright yellow, and that might be enough. Black dogs are hard, and you did a good job of capturing her.

I agree with you about the background but you did a great job with the difficult job of capturing detail on a black dog. Cute dogs. I love labs. My yellow lab is asleep at my feet right now.

Very nice shots, the black color in the first shot has a lot of blue in it, is that natural for you dog our did you increase the satuation? I really like the second shot much better.

I don't think that's a blown white spot in the first one..I think the dog has a dirty nose.
:) You did good with the black, wish I could do as well.

I agree the first photo does have a lot of blue in it. That was natural. The dog was wet from swimming and the sunlight casting on the black coat gave it a blueish tint.

The white spot on the nose was the sunlight beaming in on that exact spot. I live in Florida where the sun is often very harsh. At this time, the pup was sitting on a golf cart near a building. The top of the golf cart helped to shade the pup but there was just enough sunlight peeking through that got her on the nose. I'm all for suggestions in correcting it if you have a solution for me to try.

Very, very nice pics of a lovely lab. You could blur the background on the first, maybe would help some, although one my eyes light on the dog, I don't notice anything else. The second have about cloning the black part of the nose and the black part of the fur?
