Is there no middle ground? Albums are either at a low level (MyPublisher for $30) or these stunningly gorgeous albums for a cost to me of hundreds of dollars. Has anyone found a happy medium?

No kidding--I'm going through this right now. Haven't been impressed with Asuka and looking at Queensberry right now- beautiful, but expensive. Someone out there have a new great idea for the up and coming photographer who needs a reasonable product for their clients?

For the money spent I was expecting a bit more...and I didn't like how flimsy the pages were--I knew it was going to be printed on paper but I was thinking it would have been more substantial. I also went with a soft cover..not good. If I would ever do it again I'd order the biggest book with a hard cover and use it for maybe a portfolio for myself, but if I were a bride I wouldn't be happy with a paper album for my wedding photos.

Hi Krista,
Art Leather makes decent albums for a (IMHO) reasonable price. Prices go for about $75 (and that's canadian dollars!) to, of course, several hundreds if you want an album with mattings, etc.
I've had a good experience with them with the exception that you really need to contact them to figure out exactly how the albums work (some of them have already some glue over the entire page so if you want to do scrapbooking - other than digital scrapbooking - it's not very useful as you'll end up with uncovered glue... quite messy!)

Check out Vision Art, too. Not sure what the actual cost is, but the books are great. And they definitely aren't flimsy.

I've actually been quite impessed with the Asukabooks, and my clients love them!
Krista, go to www.albumsinc.com and sign up for an account. Have them send you a catalog. There are hundreds of different options at all sorts of price ranges.
For a basic album check out the Maxima 8x10 and 10x10 Simplice or Veloce slip in's. I offer a 5x7 Simplice as a parent album option and it's quite reasonalbe and really nice.
If you'd rather offer flush mounted, from the same catalog you can order Renassiance Ventura or "The Book" self mounts very reasonably.

i was quite impressed with the books i have received. I order the top spec book 10"x10".
Comes with hard cover and a hard case to put the album in.

Hello All,
We are looking into album creation and have looked at a few sites to see what is out there.
AsukaBook may or may not be our answer but they do offer 50% off for a studio demo book. (a one-time offer from AsukaBook)
We'll be ordering one shortly and take a look for ourselves to see if this is a solution for us.
ShutterMom, did you find any album vendors you liked over AsukaBook?

Jamie's ideas are great and I agree, Renassiance makes very nice albums but I didn't end up going with them. I use Laguna Albums exclusively and the product is fantastic.
Price wise they are better then most for what they offer and I shooped around a lot. I met them at WPPI last year. www.lagunaalbums.com

I've been spending hours on the internet--I've ordered a catalog from albumsinc- awaiting that in the mail. My own personal album is a Renassiance and I do like. So the short answer is no-- need to research more. Jamie- I bet your clients would love anything you gave them...your photos would be beautiful mounted on a corkboard ;) I know people love asuka books...just my 2 cents- maybe I should give them another try.
