Very nice Alan - I can never get very close to the ones on my local river.

Very nicely captured Cormorants and number one being nicely posed with very good details is just outstanding. Well done Sharpy.

Nice shots and, not to hi-jack the thread but does anyone know how much of a take-off run Cormorants (the ones with the orange on their faces) need to get out of the water? Reason I ask is, I saw one that was trapped in a carp trap on a Wisconsin lake. The carp trap was a fence in the water basically, up against the shore. The cormorant obviously wanted out. I wondered if he couldn't fly out because he needed a longer "runway" than was available. And he must have been too stupid to walk up onto the shore. Had to call a DNR/game warden person. I don't know what ultimately happened, but the bird was gone after a day or two.

Bob in my limited experiance of Cormorants they can get into the air from a standing start - they usually do whenever I get within 220yds.;) I have seen them take a leisurely 'walk' across the water before takeoff aswell but the answer is yes then can get up from stationary, and in the water.

Thanks for the reply Alan. In this case then, I don't know what was wrong with that bird.
