Couple of oystercatchers at Cape Recife IN RSA
Got quite close to these, they seem very used to people.

Regards to all,
Richard

Critiques welcome.

Very nice captures, the light on the first is fantastic and the composition and timing of the water flowing through the rock is great. Well done Richard.

Hi Richard;
Really like #1, the lighting really works.
I got a shot of a Black African Oystercatcher on Robben Island, Cape Town - but not as nice as yours.
The guide there said these are now fairly rare & protected. I see that at least one of them is ringed in your shot.
Nice work;
Cheers;
Lee

Hi Lee (and everyone else :-) ), the oystercatcher is indeed protected here in SA, in fact, the banning of all vehicles on our beaches was enforced in part because of these birds. They were quite rare at one time (5 years ago) but I'm seeing more and more of them lately. Looks like our conservation dept. knows what they're doing... A lot of the birds I photograph have been ringed, there must be a lot of research going on around here. Our bird-life is absolutely fantastic here and an excursion to a local game park (Addo Elelphant National Park) regularly yields sightings of about 30 species in a morning; not that you get to photograph all of them....

This is what you mostly see at Addo Elephant National Park (I'm sure there's a bird in there somewhere....) Still, it's a fantastic birding spot (280 species represented)
