View Full Version : 10D Firmware 2.0.1

Several people report receiving new 10D cameras in the past few days with firmware 2.0.1 installed. Can anyone tell us what changes have been implemented from 2.0.0, or is this simply a fix that restores the Kelvin info to the menu (which I'm told it does)?

More importantly, any idea when the fix might be posted on the Canon website?

Thanks.

We've heard that new cameras have 2.0.1. We have no information on what the update does, or when we will see it.

I heard there was an error in the 2.0.0 firmware.. Apparently some menu item was left out. It was put back in in the 2.0.1 release.. (Or so the story goes :) )

So far there is nothing on the Canon site about this firmware upgrade...

Oh yeah. That was the menu selection for 6 or 8 megapixels right? ;)

Sure would be nice if that's what they did forget :)

The Kelvin reference in the menu was supposed to have been left out of the 2.0.0 update and is said to be back in 2.0.1.

Are you talking about where you manually set the Kelvin temp? I have 2.0.0 and it's there, I just used it last night.

....or else it's the menu selection for whether the "10D focussing problem" should be active?

No, I believe it was the "L Glass Emulator." Using it causes any lens to act like an L glass lens. It is very useful and can save a ton of money!

When you are in shooting mode and press the info button, pre 2.0.0 would show the current K setting on the display. On 2.0.0 that item is gone. I guess 2.0.1 brings it back.

Nah. It was the 300D emulator option.

Puh-leese! I think win xp is the most wothless piece of crap to date that megashaft (microsoft) has put out. NTFS really sucks! What about this bit that you can't make FAT32 paritions more than 30GB in xp? Chalk that up to a planned error! I have nothing but disdain for that company and bill "i'm not rich enough and shaft everyone cuz i can and am worth more money than you could ever make in 1,000 lifetimes" gates. And get this, the US Gov't is too pansy to do anything about it!

Here's a real quickie:
FAT16 can address up to 2.048GB
FAT32 can address up to 2,048GB (2.048TB) (theoretically)
NTFS can address up to 16EB (17,179,869,184TB) Consider the largest drives out today are a paltry 250 GB, or 1/4 TB so that said, we have a long way to go before we worry about the limits on FAT 32 capacity.
This is education lesson has been brought to you by the campaign to unseat megashaft!

This is way off topic. I was not aware of this, so I did a little research. It seems that XP does support >32GB FAT32 partitions. Do a search and you can find some 3rd-party tools to do the format, or you can use a Win 98 boot disk to do the same.

It seems that MS purposely disabled the format tool in XP from creating this large of a partition. From what I can tell, that's not necessarily a bad thing because the cluster size jumps from 16K to 32K, so a lot of space can be potentially wasted if you have a lot of small files. NTFS uses a 4k cluster size for large partitions, so there's one mark in favor of NTFS.

I don't know what problems you have with NTFS, but it and XP have been very stable on my machine.

My XP machine has a 120GB hard disk in the machine.

There is only one partition. :?:

Canuck--I was only joking about the XP version comment, obviously it's firmware not an OS platform but just to set the record straight:
1. MS's operating systems and Office products are run on 80+% of the worlds desktops and applications today.
2. The network servers of all 100 of the top Fortune 100 companies are dominated by MS (as are their desktops).

It used to be that Mac dominated the graphics segement of the computer market but that is no longer true today (although it is Apple's strongest usesr group). So no matter what any Mac users opinion is it's hard to argue with success and market penetration achieved by the #2 company in the US. It's pretty astonishing in fact.

Then the partition must likely be NTFS.
