Hi there; i was just wondering if anyone can tell me where to look in my garden in Scotland; or do you not get them in scotland... so where about to look? i fouind my first one today but it was in the butterfly farm which is basically a giant greenhouse lol
so anyone here know where to look? thanks

aslo do you reckon keeping one as a pet is a bad idea; my brother suggested if i find one i should keep it as a pet- but i don't think that is very fair but people seem to... i'm asumming these British jumpers don't grow huge like the foregn ones? thanks again

I don't know about Scotland, but jumpers are generally small spiders. I have them in my garden (NW England) but they are under a centimetre long. They are also pretty alert and I have to chase them to get a shot, when they get tired they turn round and try and frighten you off which is when I get them.

In my case, I find most of them in my house.

Unlike Omri Alon, I have never found one in the house (plenty of other spiders, but never seen a jumper indoors, although that doesn't mean that another variety of jumper may not prefer indoors). They seem to prefer hard surfaces, when I spot one it's usually either on the ground, or on the top rim of those plastic garden urns (the rim is a curved one, so wide enough to give them room to run, although they are quick to run under it when they spot me coming), sometimes on the verticals too (walls, door etc).

My shots of them so far are nothing spectacular as I don't have a macro lens for the DSLRs, so I use my old Fuji s602 which has a 'supermacro' switch which allows focusing down to 2 cm so gets me close enough, although getting the little buggers to let me is another matter. I plan to get the MP-E 65mm soon, which should allow much better results.

I've often found them on the house walls, windowsills and on plants (but they are harder to spot on plants) :)
