Battery/G3

I have the BP-511 battery , Im thinking about getting an extra battery.
I ve noticed that a BP-512 can be used on the G3 as well. Does the 512 last longer? What is the difference in the two?

I have actually noticed a shorter life with the BP-12. It is meant more for the Video cameras. That is my experience with them. I have 2 BP-11 for the G3 and 2 BP-12 for my video camera (also a canon)

I found 3rd party bp511 1200mah lith ion at walmart for 26 bucks..So far it's holding a charge as long as the stock unit.

How has the $12.00 performed? any recommendations on a charger that will work with the original battery and the replacment battery?
