Another newbie question that has probably been beat to death but I need real world experience.
Brother gave me his old original rebel (300d?) with a very nice lense. Kinda like a drug dealer. The first taste is free. Now I have the bug to spend some money on upgrades. I was planning on picking up the canon 70-200 f/4 L series. Sounds great. Then I read all the posts here (damn you! damn you all!) and everyone seems to be in love with the 2.8's. Since I plan to shoot A LOT in hockey rinks, I'm sure the 2.8 is the better choice, but as I am a NEWBIE, that's a LOT more money than I want to spend right now.
So, do you think I will love the L series f/4 or should I spend a little more and get the Sigma f/2.8 (about $300 more).
Obvously I'm hoping you will all say "you'll love the f/4" but I guess I need real world advise.
Thanks everyone. Great site. Been here only a couple days and I'm a couple of grand in the hole (did I mention the 30D?)
