My first family

This was my first time with family portraits for someone other than my own family. I had a hard time getting everyone to look at me. Here are a few.

Hey, great pics in preparation for the Halloween craze. My favorites would have to be the last two.

On the first photo, I would have taken it at a lower level, with a tele and open aperture value, in order to reduce the DOF naturaly, meaning before pp. So with natural blurriness, and at the subject's same height, I think you may have had some improved results. (well, this is how I would do over if I had taken these photos).

I like the second image very much, I am still trying to figure out if the matching background actually goes well with the clothes of the portraitees (I may have made that word up), or if the backrgound should have been a different color. I just read about portrait backgrounds complementing the subject, and not completing it. Tough call on this one. Something about it does call my attention.

The third one is cool too. I am not sure if the blurr is pp'd -seems to be- but the photo is adorable. Lighting in all three looked good to me. anyhow, I hope these comments help.

Congrats on getting family portraits, once it forms a habit, it will be hard to stop.

I like the 2nd one and 3rd one. The first one I don't like the blurryness of the picture.

Lately when I have been showing people my photos, not here, but like to regular non-photographer types, they like that blur? Thats why I added it in those... I like them better without also

Thank you for removing the PS blur. Great shots. Lots of character. One thing people think the can do with digital is fix the shot afterwards. Its better to think about composition, DOF and all that technical stuff before hitting the shutter button. :):)

I think Non Photogs like the blur as it looks artsy to them. Get some quick glass and use that DOF to blur out the BG and FG and you can really see their eyes pop!!

I was using pretty quick glass, 2.8. I think I shot this somewhere between 4 and 6. This was my first family and I was concerned about not getting all of them in focus. I shoot my wedding groups at f8 mostly.
