rumour.. new teleconverter? 1.7x .. just wondering if anyone has heard anything.

I heard a rumour.. or some ramblings here in town about a 1.7x converter coming out? Anyone heard this?

It'd be nice if this was a "new" generation of tele's that have improvements in the optics. I own a 1.4x and find it pretty good, and have used a 2x only to find that it's a little soft.

Arent the current 1.4x and 2x gen-2's already as well?

Not heard anything myself.. I'd find it hard to believe though, as it would really flood the market for TC's.

I doubt it very much, the reason for 1.4x and 2x is that it conforms to mathematical theory about circle diameter. A 1.7x factor will be strange....

Nikon already has a 1.7x are you sure thats not what you heard
