Can somone please tell me if there is a difference between PS CS full retail price version and the student price version (besides cost)? And does anyone still have the link for the upgrade from PS Elements to PS CS that was posted within the last 8 weeks? Thanx

From what I've read on the Adobe User Forum, there is no difference between the Retail version and the Educational version except for the "extra" stuff that's bundled with the retail version. You get more "goodies" (like plug-ins, etc) in the retail version.

Sorry I can't help with the link.

No major difference, I'm not even sure if CS has a educational Version. I purchased the full ver @ school & it does not have the logo stating educational use only.

Please note that Photoshop CS has activation requirements. The website implies that you can have two installs, beyond that you are SOL.

So, if you install at home, then a laptop. You are fine. If you replace the HD on your home machine, you may (or may not) be hosed.

This is fine for cheap software like the $700+ photoshop CS

Over the holidays I took the opportunity to add to the HDs in my main PC.
Didn't swop the boot , application and utilities partitions around or anything but Photoshop CS insisted that, "the hardware on the machine has changed", and it had to re-activate, "could it connect to Adobe?".
I said yes and it said, "Activated, all done, thank you" in the blink of an eye.
Yes, the two installs is to enable you to use it on two different machines (not like Win XP then!) but any re-activation does seem painless and easy.
I have e-mailed Adobe asking for their policy on this - if I swop memory/processor/have a drive fail/ number of times I can re-activate etc. - but they have not got back to me as yet, Will post here when they do.
In the meantime there doesn't seem any cause to worry - yet.

 For me, photography is a hobby. Photoshop CS, I am sure, will enhance my abilities. But as a hobbiest, I do not invest $600+ in software lightly. Activation sounds like something that will just burn me 4 years down the road. What happens if Adobe folds? What is the long term support policy? Will they allow activations when CS version 4.0 is released?

If this was $99 software, I would view it differently. Probably buy it, even.

As is stands, Capture One Dslr (light ==> Have not figured out why the pro costs $500) suits me fine, coupled with Photoshop elements. CS (to me) is just not worth the headache AND premium

I tried Capture One with the PowerShot G3, but it would not read my
CRW files. Any suggestions? I really wanted to try a different RAW
converter other than Photoshop's and Canon's.

Is Capture One limited to the DSLR's as the name suggests? I thought a
Canon CRW file would be the same off the G3 as well.
