My very initial thought - Where is the background? Is that a shadow in front of them?
This images does not look good with the "shadow" on the left side of the subjects. Either cut it out completly or leave the background in.
Also, there are no shadows, no depth. This is a ver flat image. Did you use a fill flash? try an incandescent light from the side, tripod and no flash. Longer shutter speed and smaller aperture.
Other than that, nice shot.
BTW, your husband reminds me of the guy who plays lead in "The Transporter"

Here's the original - intact except for the colour removal...

I removed the background so as not to lose the focal points of the picture and to make the overall perception a bit lighter

You have a beautiful baby there and so young. Good to see that you are keeping the photography going, I know a new child can be very taxing.
Maybe if you cropped in real close, then it would be easier to appreciate the essence of the moment.
I hope you don't mind me having a quick go illustrating what I mean (I'm learning myself) - All I have done here
(1) is cropped in real tight,
(2) airbrushed the wall behind the same colour as the shadow, and
(3) framed it.

Good luck with the family,

Jon got the right idea, but the airbrushing doesn't look very good (sorry Jon). Here is my version:

Just a bit of cropping and removing the ornaments on the wallpaper makes it a really nice picture.
