Questios:
Whats the difference between adjusting flash exposure under Auto and flash output under Manual?
Does changing flash exposure under Auto mode affect Flash output??
Does the camera estimate the flash output under Auto and Manual or just Auto??
Why do manual where you only have 3 options of flash output when Auto can give you more fine tuned control?
And under what mode do you use when using external flash??
Thanks for taking the time.

When you adjust flash exposure under Auto, the flash will fire with less light and the camera will still use all the auto settings (so the background will still remain exposed they way it should be). When you use the M-setting you want to get some kind of special effect, like under- or overexposure, and leaving the flash in auto can ruïn that effect. Just try making a dozen or more pics with all kind of changed settings and see what happens.
An external flash works the same as the internal one, but better!! It will also turn the internal flash off because you won't need it anymore and you can tilt and shift the head in order to bounce the light on a white wall or ceiling to get a more softened effect.

I have tried to adjust the flash exposure under auto before and it will not let me do it. I have to have the mode set to "P" before I can even navigate to the flash option under the Function Menu.
Are you two talking about something else?

Sorry, you're right. The green "Auto"-setting won't let you change vital settings, I was referring to the "P"-setting because I never use the "Auto".

Auto mode means that the camera takes over all adjustments.
If you put your camera in Av and go to memory you will find a flash adjustmen setting which can be set to auto or manual. In manual setting you can only adjust your flash in AV & TV & manual by out put full, half, quarter. and program mode is by EV setting. In auto Program,AV,TV can be set bt EV mode. manusl is by out put.
The camera will adjust in all other modes but depending on how you have it set it will adjust in an output mode (ful - 1/2 -1/4 )or an EV adjsutment mode plus or minus 1 to 2 stops.
