I mostly only use manual setting in my G5 but from the looks of some threads it looks like i might be missing on a lot like ND filter! being very new to the camera could anyone help me reason about the better usage of P, Av and Tv modes over M?

The program mode is good when you are in a fast shooting situation, you set your white balance and ISO and the camera does the rest of the work. I have found that the camera can come very close to my Sekonic hand meter.
TV mode is when you are shooting sports you set the shutter speed and camera makes the exposure and set the F stop.
AV is when you want depth of field you set the F stop and camera sets shutter.
You can do the same thing in the manual mode except when light changes the camera changes the exposure and some time we cant make that adjustment manually.
I used to do everyting until I realized the camera was better them me in certain shooting situations.
The neutral density filter is in the camera an can be used in the manual mode as well. its a three stop reduction in light and is great when you need a 1/2000 sec at F 16 and you only have F8.
