I'm looking into buying some studio lighting equipment. I know that with the 10D it was a port to plug in the remote for the studio strobes, but there isn't one on the 300D. Can you use the 300D with this kind of lighting? And if so then how? Please be gentle I'm fairly new to studio lighting. :D

You will need an adapter that attaches to the hotshoe. If you don't know the triggering voltage of your studio strobes, then it's recommended that you use a voltage-protected adapter.
Wein has one (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=245292&is=REG) that provides a PC output. Paramount Cords (www.paramountcords.com) can custom build a cord for you to convert from a hotshoe to any kind of output: household, PC, monoplug, etc. Paramount also offers voltage-protected cords as an option.

I'm using a simple 10$ hotshoe adapter to attach the cable of a Balcar studio flash. Works without problems on the 300D (2800 reproductions with flash).

Hoteshoe adapter & make sure you have voltage protection built into it. It can save you your camera.

Most Studio Flash setups have a sync voltage of say 30v and the Canons are designed for 6v Max. You therefore need a Wein Safesync hotshoe adapter, or the like, to handle the higher voltage or do what I do a lot and use a small flash unit set low on manual to fire the slaves of the studio strobes. If I am shooting from a tripod I use the former but if I am shooting kids (in the photographical sense) I prefer to have some freedom in the stuidio and use the flash fire solution.

As someone said to me, the only stupid question is the one you dont ask!

Whats stupid is not learning from other peoples mistakes. I love this forum it has save me money & time. Ask away I know I would rather ask questions and get things close to being right instead of burning up costly equipment and my time.
I already feel I could use 36 hour days. :)
