:D

It just arrived from my friendly UPS man.

My Digtial Rebel(kit version), Canon EF 28-135mm IS, 420EX, Lowepro AW Mini Trekker and some other cosmetic gizmos. (Ordered from B&H PHOTO)

Had it all out, checked for exterior damage and all appears to be fine.

Wifey says I can't have it now to my Birthday (Jan10th), so now I have 2 days to look at it in the box and decide what i'm gonna rush out and shot on saturday (NW Ohio weather permitting).

Thanks to everyone that gave advice and opinions in any of my posts leading up to this purchase. I'm sure I'll be back with lots more questions once I get some experience changing over from a G2

Congratulations. That's a great way to start.

Actually, you should be able to begin using it tomorrow afternoon since it will already be the 10th in Australia.

You must learn to think on your feet where photography is concerned.

Good luck.

Congrats and welcome to the club!

What do you shoot? On the first day you pretty much shoot everything. I shot everything that moved and then just for good luck, I shot everything that wasn't moving, just in case it moved later.

Everyone around you will be annoyed because you're shooting them too. Be sure and get the whites of their eyes as they give you that look of disdain. :)

Enjoy! It will truly change your (photographic) life.

Happy birthday :D and welcome to the real photography craziness!

Sooner or later you're going to convince yourself that you *need* L-series lenses. I'm going to buy my first one soon..... :P (the 17-40L)...

He should just speed up the process and get rid of the spouse now, obviously limiting his photography already. 8)

Note keep the spouse if they paid for the camera. :P

You really should make sure the camera works before you get it for your birthday; after all you would not want a defective camera, lens, flash, backback for a birthday present would you :)

Congrats...

Congratulations! While you are waiting (and happy Birthday) here's a link to the users manual. I would suggest you read it even before you open the box...then read the one in the box one more time while you hold and fondle the camera (you can just hold it, I held and fondled it 8) ). You won't be wasting your time.

Will I get the same welcome/cheers/etc. if/when I too make that leap w/ roughly the same setup? :D

Been looking lately (and even started a thread asking for suggestions on lenses a few weeks ago), and I too might end up w/ a 300D + kit lens + 28-135IS (and probably the 50mm f/1.8 if I go w/ 28-135IS) -- already have a 420ex (for my G3) and a Tamrac Velocity 5 bag big enough for such a starter kit. Alternative would probably be Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 XR, instead of 28-135IS, and then add either 70-200 f/4 or Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 EX sooner than later.

OTOH, maybe I'll end up going w/ the upcoming Nikon D70 w/ comparable lenses, if it actually comes out sooner than later. :D

BTW, John, congrats and enjoy! You're almost home free! I'm lagging far behind still. Must live vicariously (for now)... :D

Best wishes John! I just got mine at Christmas, also upgrading from a G2. I've decided to save up for "L" lenses thanks to input from some of the accumulated wisdom on this site. Here's a link to the start of my 300D gallery if you're interested in looking, taken with the Canon 18-55 lens in the Canon kit.

Me Too! Sold the G3. The UPS man delivered mine at work Wednesday. A DRebel body, a 77mm UV, and a 17 ~ 40 f/4 "L". Oh yeah babe. . . . With regards to you significant other? I think women call the waiting game foreplay. I think, they think, we will enjoy it more if we have to wait. Anyways congratulations! I don't know about you but, I've got 1001 questions. I'm gonna try to work them out before posting.

Well I'd already d/loaded the manual from the Canon website when the Digital Rebel came out and read it through to see if it was worth the upgrade from my G2. I left it lying around the apartment every few days, subtly placed of course and then the wife said "is that what u want for your birthday?"

As she offered how could I refuse...lol...maybe I can d/load some "L" glass brochures and try the same approach?

You sly dawg. Hey, how do you like the Sandisk "ultra"? Are they really faster? I've read pros and cons.
