B&H has taken the 1D off the product listings.... :)

As have a number of other vendors.. PMA is right around the corner folks! Looks like Canon just told us which one is being replaced ... it is the 1D for sure.

So,. the 10D will last at least untill Fall 2004,.. if not another year, IMO

Can't wait to see what they do to the 1D!!!!!!! Nikon's D2H has only just edged past the specs of the 1D. And the 1D is nearly three years old!

Interesting CDS. I just looked at Canoga Camera's site and they have "Out of Stock" listed there. Used to say "call for availabability" I think.

One of my desires in an upgrade camera is the ability to get true wide angle shots without losing any of the capabilities I have in the 10D.

Thus I eagerly await the anticipated 1D upgrade to be announced in Feb.
If it is 1.3x I will have to think long and hard, if it is FF and at least 8MP; then the only real issue becomes cost versus money in hand [the #1 reason I don't have a 1Ds].

My prediction still holds from Nov. as 1.3x (possibility of FF), 8-9MP, 9FPS for 42-45frames, price between $3-5k US (best guess $3500).

For trivia I note that BH is out of the 10D again for a few days, but they are taking pre-orders which probably means they expect more in soon. This would be consistent with a Sep replacement/upgrade BTW. I acknowledge the possibiliy of a minor 10D upgrade to accept EF-s lenses announced in Feb, but I probably won't be getting one so don't really care.

Just my desires and opinions,

Well, I'm attending the PMA this year & will have my eyes open for all new Canon DSLR products. In fact I was there last year & played with the 10d for close to an hour. If anyone can make it to Vegas for the show it's well worth the trip. It's like the CES show but all for photography & it can save you from spending the $$$ too soon.

I went last year and am going again this year...and since Canon has unveiled the "new" miniDV video cameras at CEPA hopefully they will at least have some big surprise for us at PMA....it will surely attract a large crowd no matter what it is...

Why do they need to wait till they return... take a Verizon camera phone and snap pictures and send them real time... to be followed by much better high resolution copies as soon afterwards as they can of course. :D

$3200.00 ?

That may be too rich for my blood... :(

But really I can't imagine it being less. I can see me beinag able to spend another $1,000.00 over the 10D price,. ($2,500.00 in case any of you are CompUSA cashiers)

Well we shall see,.. if it rocks my world,. who knows?

I will make a full report, I'm hoping I 'll get my pass from the college soon. Of course I'll have my camera with me & I don't believe in camera phones. The lowest quality cam I have is the Olympus 2.1 and it does well enough to get 5x7 prints.
I already have my pass to get into the WPPI show here next month. Canon has setups there also maybe get a preview before the PMA. Either way it goes I'll pass on the info fact or fiction.

If it's 8fps and 8mp I'll be forced to save for one. That would be the camera to have for close to the rest of my life. Sound's like it'll retail for $3999. I was hoping for $2999. We'll see...

Still inmune to it, but I never "tasted" one neither. I know it's an one way road :).

I can't imagine a 1D replacement costing more than the $2899 1D.

I would not be surprised at $2500.
I would not be surprised by a 10D pricedrop (or replacement model) at $1200.

I'll do what I can...but my photographic equipment budget does not allow for a ridiculous camera phone  I'll take some shots with an SD10 and post them on the site in the evenings...if I have time between drinks....roulette...and rubbin' elbows at the vendor parties

I bet the replacement for the 1D is going to be "the new black", shiny and silver!

All kidding aside, I have been saving for a 1D, but have decided to wait it out for the replacement. So at 3000 its still going to be in my bag.

8fps is what it is all about in sports....

I also think the price has to be in the mid 2k's as well. All technology comes out better and cheaper.

If it's mid 2Ks,.. then I may be a contender indeeed,.. I also my be one of the bottom feeders that snatches up a 1st gen 1D as they get sold off buy upgraders,. all depends on the pricing :)

As we all wait and wonder what Canon has up their sleeve. I can only wonder and hope that it wows us all! I sincerely hope there isn't the front/back focus issue that the 10D had.

For everyone wondering about what Canon is about to release, I have the dirt you won't find anywhere else! I was getting my hair highlighted today and my stylist told me that her girlfriend is dating someone very high up at Canon (e.g. VP). Well, according to my stylist's girlfriend's boyfriend, Canon's camera division has been bought out by the parent company of A&W Root Beer! I know, I was as shocked to hear this as you are right now. It appears that Canon is going to quit production of cameras altogether as they transition to bubblejet soft drink dispensers! Imagine! Getting a cool refreshing beverage at 2400 dpi! I must say I was skeptical at first but my stylist assured me her info is legit. This really puts a cramp in my photography plans and I am planning on selling all of my equipment and getting into juggling (tear). I know alot of you are going to be skeptical of this post, but you shouldn't be any more skeptical than all of the other info floating around out there. When Canon wants us to know, they'll tell us. Untill then everything is just wishful thinking. Take care all, best wishes. Dave

You do know that the chemicals they use to highlight your hair actually rots your brain ?

Be careful out there.

Cheers

Too funny BigSexy!

The speculation about the camera's specs is indeed wishfull thinking in most cases,.

but if it is NOT a replacement for the 1D... ( ie: a pro level Camera with improved specs over the exisiting 1D but not as pricey as the 1Ds)

I will donate the first ever Canon Digital Photography PRIZE Award to the winner of our next photo contest.. the value of the prize to be a minimum of $100.00 U.S. Dollars :)
