Breeze browser is the best I think.

Have a look at Yarc also. For RAW conversion it has a very efficient interface. Needs Thumbsplus as a companion viewer to work at max efficiency.

Scott Professional's Canon Photo Studio is another great tool to convert Raw files .

Another vote here for Breezebrowser - www.breezesys.com
Other people have their preferences, including Yarc, YARCPlus, Scott Professional. I used to use Yarc with Dos commands to set predetermined flags, but became hooked on Breezebrowser. I did try an early version of Scott Professional, but found it too slow with my PC (K6II-500) as it re-extracted (or did, maybe it doesn't now) the image every time I changed a setting. A good principle but not much use on a machine that takes 40-odd seconds to do that conversion. I really ought to have another look now I have a better PC, but Breezebrowser suits my workflow.

i have the good fortune of working on both platforms
Are any of these good for Macs?
I've used bb and yarc on my windows platform, but would side with yarc because it is free completely whereas bb wants 35 dollars for full access. Yarc does request 10 to help with development, but it is not required.

I don't think that any of these work on Macs, since Canon have not made their SDK available for the Mac platform, only Windows.
I have a vague recollection (although I could be wrong - I'm not a Mac user) that Bibble might work on the Mac - I don't think it uses the Canon SDKs.
BTW, $35 isn't too bad for Breezebrowser - that gets free updates, and there have been several since I bought in September. The support provided is good as well.

I've been very satisfied with BreezeBrowser. Also - if you have a laptop - you might try Chris Breeze's D30 Remote Capture program.

As far as the Mac platform I just started using Lemke's Graphic Converter. Looks promising. Also it's been reported that Canon is going to release its' SDK code for Mac on 04/15.
Add: Forgot to mention that ScottPro Photo Studio reportedly will release a Mac version sometime this summer.

BreezeBrowser.
I highly recommend updating to the latest version (1.5)
Many improvements added in past month or two.
It just keeps getting better & better. :)

Hi Guys-
Thought I'd throw in my 2centz... as of right now, nobody can decode D60 RAWs except Canon's proprietary software, that is, Until Canon releases their SDK's to the 3rd party software gurus.
For those who thought they were decoding D60 files with their exsting RAW decoders, (BreezeBrowser, YarcPlus, InfaView, etc.), actually, only the embedded .jpg in the D60 RAW was being decoded; not the RAW itself.
Guess we'll just have to wait awhile longer...

CRW files contain both the raw image data and an embedded JPG. In the D30 this is 1440x960 pixels, I can't remember the D60 size, except it's bigger. It's this embedded JPG that apps like BreezeBrowser will display. This JPG will have had the camera parameters for sharpness, contrast and saturation applied, but I'm not sure what degree of compression is applied.

new 4.0 version of Acdsee reads and converts RAW files. it's a little slow sometimes, but I think it's my computer trying to deal with 100+ 9mb files at a time.

I thought only the EOS 1D was capable of capturing a jpg simultaneously withe RAW image?

The 1D can capture a full-size JPEG as well as the raw image. But the D30 does have the embedded JPG at the smaller size 960x1440.

Hi Roger-
According to Phil Askey's review of the D60, the embedded .jpg (contained within the RAW itself) is 2048x1360 at medium/fine compression... not too shabby, eh?

Ok.....what do I need to do.
I just got a laptop....and am trying to open RAW files through photoshop.
On my desktop computer, I go to IMPORT and a groovy thumbnail browser opens up to select files to convert.
On the new laptop....the CANON option isn't under the Import options.
Ive installed the driver, breezybrowser, the raw converter......what did I do on my desktop that I now need to do on the laptop.
HELP!

I use the Macintosh and have found that iView Media Pro does an outstanding job reading and converting RAW format files under both System 9 and Mac OS X.

OK, now I am confused. I have only had my D60 for five days and I have been shooting everything in RAW and then converting to JPG (because someone on a forum somewhere said RAW is better.) If the conversion products only pull out a 2048x1360 embedded JPG, woudn't I get better results if I shot in 3072x2048 JPG mode on the camera and didn't have to worry about any conversion?
To me it sounds as if the RAW is better quality, we just can't use it yet.
If I shoot JPG the files are smaller so the buffer should empty faster, and I can put more shots on the CF. Right?

I think the third-party converters are now able to do full conversion, although I assumed that the Canon-supplied software would do that from day 1 (I could be wrong, as I don't have a D60?). If you are in doubt, convert a RAW file to JPG and look at the resultant image size.
If I am right then converting the RAW files will give better images if you need as much information as possible to post process.
You are correct about the speed and CF card issues with JPG compared to RAW. For example, my D30 will put about 280 RAW images on a 1Gb microdrive, 800+ large-fine JPGs or a huge number of small-fine JPGs - the counter only has 3 digits, so it won't tell me more than 999! Obviously, these figures are roughly halved for the D60.
Likewise, in continuous shooting JPG will take more shots before having to empty the buffer - I think my D30 will do about 5 RAW shots before needing to empty the buffer, or getting on for 30 small-fine JPGs.
