I've been using the ACR plug in with PS 7.01 for most of my post processing,. while dabbling in the C1 le as well... I am so much more comfortable with PS I finally bit the upgrade bullet,...

Well,. the added RAW features in CS really rock!

I am so glad to have read the many comments and tips on this here,. as I am usually a very late adopter of software upgrades. (didn't get 7 untill CS was a week away from release,. and only got 7 because I got ACR not realizing it wouldn't run on 6! :( )

Anyway,. thanks for the info on CS,. this site is allways very helpfull at getting me to spend more of my money!

//well I'm off to get all my plug ins and actions loaded into CS now :x

CDS,

Welcome to the CS world. I didn't use 7 very much so can't really point you to the "must see sights" of CS.

But for sure, the RAW convertor is a great place to start. I do as much as possible here before importing. Seems to help.

Shadow/Highlight tool on the adjustments menu is a great help for those images that were really in trouble.

Image Size tool seems to be much improved on the one in 7. Big blow ups of small images work well.

Er, that's it for now. Have fun...

Cheers

If you can,. could you point me towards the "Image size" tool? Are you saying htere is a different one in the RAW plug-in? Or is the standard one in PS just improved (I'd look right now but I'm in work untill about Midniffght tonight)

Also,. for some reason I thought that there was a "crop" tool that could be used within the RAW plu-in,. am I wrong? I could not find it.

CDS,

Image | Image Size... in the main CS application looks the same (IIRC) as the one in PS 7 but I find it gives much better results upsizing images for printing large sizes. I.e. I've had a couple of standard RAW shots, blown them up in Image Size to A1 size (at 300dpi) and had them printed to great effect.

You can also upsize (and downsize) images within the RAW converter as well but only to fixed size increase/decreases. See along the bottom of the RAW window. It also gives good results but I don't use it very often.

Crop Tool in the RAW converter ? No, I haven't seen one either. But I find new stuff everyday.

Cheers

Ian

I am familiar with ACR with PS 7.01. It does a very decent job of conversion, but it suffers from the fact that it cannot read the "as shot" whitebalance from the camera, so it takes a guess (and gets it wrong occasionally, but then you can fix it manually). What are the new features of RAW conversion in photoshop CS?

ACR cannot read the "as shot" white balance of Canon cameras because Canon does not release the information to 3rd party developpers on how to read it. That problem does not occur with many other manufacturers.

Well, it has the image resizing in RAW,. (I don't remeber ACR having that in PS7)

There are now 4 tabbed pages of options to the right of the image (in PS7 ACR there was only one set of controls immediatley to the right)

There is a whole page of Lens controls .. with vignette,. CA and other things to adjust.. the last page is the color page where you can adjust the saturation and hue of the R, G, and B individually with 6 sliders..

... this is all I can remember off hand,. but it is cool stuff.
