Resizing questions

I recently got married and had a photographer do the pictures. He gave us a bunch of great shots and everything also on a CD, so we could get more prints. The pictures he gave us are about 6 megs each, 48x32 inches I think. I uploaded these to the same lab he used and tried to order some 4x6 and 5x7 prints. I only ordered 13 in this first order. The lab only got three prints and said there we horrible. Any ideas what could have went wrong?

When you open the photos what is the pixel dimensions? What color space are they in?

Did you transfer the full size files or did you scale them down to 4x6 and 5x7?

Best bet, basically, is to change the files to 300 DPI, then crop to the correct aspect ratio (4x6 or 5x7), and then resize to the correct size (4x6 inches, etc).
