The autofocus doesn't seem to work in the creative modes (P, Tv, etc.), no matter what type of scene or lighting conditions. But autofocus is sharp as a tack in Auto and the pre-set modes. Maybe I'm missing something in the instructions. In P mode with the LCD on, I set the AF frame over the area I want in focus, press the button halfway, the AF frame appears green, there are no blinking indicator lights. Then I press the button completely but the final picture is out of focus. This happens in sunlight scenes, flash-lit scenes, any kind of scene. And it happens in Tv and Av modes as well. However, manual focus works OK. Am I overlooking some essential setting?

When you press the Func button you can set the sharpening to neutral, vivid or low (or even custom). Did you check that?

I've tried those settings....no change. Thanks anyhow.

There was a problem with the S45 which was solved with new firmware. What is the firmware version of your S50?

I've discovered what I was doing wrong: I was shooting in RAW mode, and now realize that the replay mode cannot render such a file in its finished form, so that's why the images looked fuzzy. Once converted into TIF images, they are very sharp. DUHHH!
