What does this mean?

I am looking at a photo's exif, and it says:

Shutter Speed: 1/2656 sec.
Exposure Time: 1/2500 sec.

What program are you using to read the exif? I have noticed the exposure field being different than the shutter speed field in CS2. I dont know what it means though, I usually read the exif in DPP.

Not really sure, but maybe it has something to do with the original 1D's unique CCD shutter.. in addition to the =cutain shutter it blacks out the CCD electronically .. thus the insanely fast 1/16000th second shutter speed and 1/500th flash synch is possible.

Sounds like the CCD blackout is keeping your exposure times faster and more accurate than the shutter itself would.

If you for instance use Av mode the aperture is fixed and the camera will choose the speed that gets the exposure right. Maybe the camera or the EXIF viewer shows the actual speed as "Shutter speed" and rounds that off to the nearest standard value (1/125s, 1/250s etc) for "Exposure time".

I think this sounds like the most plausible explanation to me. :)
