Great captures and good timming after all we wouldnt want the point of the board in the lens

With the housing it looks like dont have a lot of camera controls.

i can only access to the control that can change the aperture or shutter, depending what mode i am in. i normally shoot in av and boost the iso to what i think will get me to at least 1/500th (prefer 1/1000)th with a 7.1 aperture. that 7.1 seems to be the sweet spot on the sigma 10-20. when in av mode i can change aperture setting while in the water, but nothing else. sometimes its difficult trying to gauge what the sun is gonna do.

Those shots are soooo cool! How did you get them without being in the way of the surfer?

rodrigo, the delmar camera housing is a great housing. the only drawback is i can't go full manual, i either need to go ap. priority, or shutter priority (or any of the auto modes). this can make it a little tough becuase when shooting beach breaks i end up changing directions throughout the session putting the sun behind, in front, to the side, etc of me. i am saving for an aquatech housing that will allow full control.
nicky, timing is critical in the water because i am very close to the guys going by. i normally have my lens set to 13 mm and i need to get on top of the guys, otherwise they look real small and don't fill the frame. it helps to shoot guys who are very good surfers, and there are a couple of guys i have known for awhile and we kind of know what each other is going to do at any given moment. i now where a helmet when i am in the water, just in case.
thanks,
chuck

As a surfer and a photographer it would be damned near impossible to surf with a DSLR camera. I imagine he is wearing a full wetsuit with fins to get a camera out in the surf zone or maybe even dive gear.

I've taken a P&S digital out on my board in a waterproof case but I kept worrying that I'd drop down on my board and get it wedged in between me and my surfboard.

kayla, julian is right. a fullsuit (j-an excel 4/3, toasty) , pair of fins and a helmet . just swimming out from the beach.
thanks,
chuck
