So I'm reading that the general rule to not have camera shake when using longer telephoto lens is to use the "shutter speed vs focal length reciprocal rule". So if I'm at 200mm, I should be shooting at a shutter speed of about 1/200sec. Does the cropping factor of the 10D magnify this rule? I'm thinking no because it's well, cropping...not really magnifying farther. What's your experience or take?

Yes and no,. but yes :)

Obviously you allready realize the lens magnification does not increase at all. but as we in essence "blow up" all our 1.6X prints relative to a 35mm,. there is an increase in magnification occuring at the print level...

So just as you would desire a faster shutter with a givien lens if your intention was to crop out a section of your 35mm negative and blow it up to size,. it would be the same with the image sensors "crop" & subsequent blow up.

Truth be told,. the rule is a rule of thumb that,. especially with practice and a steady hand,. was made to be broken. I have 500mm shots at 1/60 shutters that are very nice...

In practice, just experiment, you'll find lot more lattitude then that rule. And get IS if you can, I swear by it.
