I took this today with a Canon Ixus V using macro mode. Any comments are welcome http://members.aol.com/euphorbic/heather.jpg[/url]

The flower is very pretty and it leads right up into...."Hey what is that object directly above the flower? At first I thought it was a castle, but it isn't. Is it a dead tree trunk? Hmmm."
I find that thing, whatever it is, distracting from your subject. A crop is in order.

Isolate the center flower completely I think :)

There is just too much in this pic. Try to isolate one flower and concentrate on that one.

This looks a lot better than your first try. When you take the picture again (I hope you will), try to get a bit closer so the flower fills the viewfinder. Open up your aperature to the full to fully blur the background.

I will try and take the photo again although on the Ixus V, I don't have an aperture control, only exposure and white balance.
