I carelessly dropped my SD400. It still takes good pictures, but there is a very blurred image on the LCD. I open the backcover and discovered the wire band next to the viewfinder was torn. I'd appreciate any advice on how or where to fix it. Thanks

My first inclination is to get it to Canon for repair. Perhaps someone here with repair experience could help you more.

Thanks a lot, Tom, for your idea. I took it to a camera repair shop, but they charged too much: $225 for a $400 camera. I'm thinking of buying another wire band and fix it myself, but I don't know where to order it.

Thanks

I have seen a few posts here about ordering the spare part from Cannon directly and repair it themselves. Have you called Canon? If not, give them a call and describe the part. It should not be expensive, since a LCD replacement is only $30 or so. Good luck.

You'll likely need to replace the entire LCD as the ribbon connector is likely connected to the LCD unit (but maybe it's not.) Contact Canon (with model, and serial number ready) and describe the part needed. If it's part of the LCD, they'll let you know. You may want to get a copy of the exploded view to verify the parts required.

While you're doing it, look for any other broken/bent items. You may need to repair or replace other stuff too.

Good luck, be careful and don't rush the repair.
