The venue was a little local event called the Coyote Fest. (this year, money raised went to local firefighting efforts. we had a lot of fires around here last summer) A couple of days and nights of mostly local talent. (the headliner was the lead singer from Concrete Blonde, I guess she has local ties) Most of the entertainment were musical groups, but a few odds and ends were added for interest between acts. This act called themselves 'The Fuego Girls', they did some fire dancing, and it made for a few interesting pics.

Great dark, minimal light shots...Did you use the IS?
What ISO, and shutter speed did you get by with, for these sharp pictures?

I'm impressed you got these with so little light. Hmmmm, fires? I thought you were famous for earthquakes!

Nice night shots. Those are tough to get in focus.

I'd probably try and make the background a bit blacker in photoshop, maybe up the contrast a little... it could be the smoke but the whole picture looks a bit brown and noisy. What's that thing behind her head? Can't figure out what it looks like, it's got me curious now.

It looks like some kind of lighting rig... but the curve of it does kind of make me wonder?

Looks like part of a ferris wheel to me.
Excellent shots of the girl OP. Very nice lowlight work!

I think you completely missed out on these shots. When they are playing with the fire you want to use low shutter speeds to get a cool picture like this.http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/821/poi2lh6.jpg

I really like it, and I really like her expression. I see what you mean Exit, but He would have missed the beautiful curls at the ends of the flames with a slow SS, I think both have their merits.

Yeah, I should have shot some slow and some faster. I guess I was just trying to get the shutter as fast as I could because the girls were dancing around quite a bit, and I wanted to keep them crisp. I do like the the effect the in the low SS shot posted
