I took this in broad daylight this morning with the 100-400 @ 400mm, f/8 @ 1/350, ISO 100. The picture is really not remarkable, and I apologize for posting it on this board, but many have asked how good the 100-400 f/4-5.6L really is. This one completely satisfied me.

The picture is cropped a fair amount. After all, a 400 mm lens isn't really going to reach out all that far when you're talking about heavenly bodies.

Just thought I'd share.

Tom

Why is it that one can never see "the man in the moon" in a photograph? Still, quite a decent shot of the moon. (Also, why doesn't the moon have a name like Io, Ganymede, Europa, etc." Hmmm.)

The Earth's moon is "Luna" for what it's worth.

Ah, yes, look at this pic, and stand about 10 ft from the monitor:

It is of the moon, taken with a Sigma 120-300mm F2.8EX lens mounted on a 10D.

I recon this problem is that you're too close to see it and what you seee is different at close up vs long distance. It is kinda an optical illusion. Try looking at the pics at 10 ft and you will see it on the one I have linked to on this post.

When I saw that Tom had posted a "moon" picture, I had to get the kids out of the office. Did not want them to be witness to something that might shock and affect them for life.
Boy do I feel silly.
Nice moon Tom...looks like the one we had up here last night :D

Don't fret, Ian. I haven't done any self-portraits in quite a while. If I ever do, though, I'll make sure I use the body which tends to rear focus.

I hope you folks are warming up a little. My wife is on the phone with her aunt in NY, and it sounds like it's downright ugly cold there these days.

OK, if you were to perform such a feat, would you use a wide angle or a telephoto? Why? :D

BTW, Ian, you once made a reference to selling bikes. What kind of 'bikes' do you sell?

Giant Bicycles
Built To Be Ridden
We are talking pedal bikes here, not the "Twist'n'Go" type :D

Very interesting. I ride when my knees allow it. I've got a couple that I ride when the mood strikes me including a Specialized mountain bike and a BikeE recumbent. I also have a road bike, but hate to ride it. I have an aversion to being bent over like that, and I'm no Lance Armstrong anyway.

I haven't ridden motorcycle since the seventies (my thirties). I occasionally get the bug, but haven't followed through on it yet. I suppose if they ever come out with a motorcycle with a recliner on it, I'd be sorely tempted.

Tom,
Check out our US web site www.giantbicycles.com and look at the Revive.
Several years ago we purchased BikeE and recently folded its tent. The Revive is a more comfortable bike and is a real pleasure to drive. I actually "borrowed" one from our Dealer Show up here in September and have put a lot of miles on it. I too have a couple of trick knees and this bike doesn't punish them at all.
It is a lot cheaper than "L" glass...

Now you've done it---you've encouraged me! Now you'll never get any peace.

This is the same picture, 'tweaked' a little in PS. It's really interesting what you can do with marginal pictures.

Damn nice tweek Tom!

Now you make we want to go back & spend quality time "tweeking" mine
I still think I need a newer (SLIK 200 - maybe 20 years old?) tripod & a remote vs. on camera 10-sec timer?

But maybe... that 50-500 I'm salivating over would be better than my 28-300?

tnx!
