Wow what a camera, I have lots and lots to learn but I am loving it already. What size pics can you post. Dont want to make them too big. Also what would you say is a good size to email for dial up users? Thanks.

The forum limits 800 in either dimension,.. but it is a good idea to keep the height down to 600 max and width 700 max... unless you have something that HAS to be larger.. :)

Be gentle to your dial-up friends.

I photograph for a preschool. There's about 80 children. Now and again I get a fab shot that I want to share with the parents right away instead of making them wait until the end-of-the-year for the "final product".

Generally, I knock my images down to about 500 pix on the long side. That's a decent size for the "average monitor". I figure that the majority of people that I send pictures to aren't tech savvy and may not know how to deal with an image too large to wholly display on their monitor.

However, I also include a line in the email that says something like "If you'd like the original of this picture, just let me know. It is xx megs in size." Every now and again, one of them takes me up on it.

I'm still stuck with dial-up in my rural area and I don't mind email containing 1 or 2 pictures at 640px on the long side; 500px for 3-4 pictures, and 400px for 5-6.

For my extended family members with broadband, I encourage them to upload into our family photo album on my website. The script takes what ever they upload, and downsizes images to 640x480, creates thumbnails, and publishes them into a web page gallery. It's great for family that has a digital camera and still don't know how to resize and compress images to suit us poor dial-up subscribers.

I've never used them but http://www.pbase.com/ looks like a great modest cost alternative to emailing pictures. Just send friends your gallery links.
