I stumbled across this at the sand dunes. I like it but wonder if there isn't enough in the composition.

I like the left one better. It makes me want to go over the hill to the other side! =)

The first one is definitely worth keeping, it's a nice shot.

This pair is definitely a vote for the rule of thirds. The first one is a keeper. To me, the second is boring. Don't worry about "not enough in the composition." Who was that painter who would just put a solid color on the canvas? Simplicity can be enthralling.

Isn't enough in the composition, wish I could get that more often. :) You should be so lucky to have such an empty view. Too often where I am there is just too much. Small ugly trees and bushes that get in the way of a great tree or rock or stream and of course the civilization aspects of utility poles, radio towers, etc.

One reason people buy pictures/art of simple compositions is that they have and always will be outside of everyone's everyday lives. That's why people like large lakes, oceans because there is just nothing out there - not thousands of things for your brain to process.

Tree on the left is better, but try and do something about the overly blown highlights. The tree in the middle doesnt have that problem.

Very valuable comments and insight. Thank you.

Left one is a keeper. I like the simple subject and composition, and yet the depth of the image as a whole. I specially like the halo of light, how it wraps around the tree, as if it were glowing.

The first one is really nice. Finding a simple landscape like that one is really rare - well done!
