I've lived near the Tannersville Cranberry Bog all of my life but never went there. Kind of a shame, since it's fascinating. Took some shots today, tell me what you think.

I should have waited a few weeks for the Macro version of my Sigma 70-200 to come out. I was standing on a floating boardwalk while taking these and these were right next to the boardwalk. I needed approx. 8 feet of distance to achieve focus. I'm really regretting not getting the Macro :-(

Fantastic captures, colors, framing and subject choice...

Bogs are fragile(the carpet will tear)...and harbor less common, unique plants, always worth the trip for the guided walks...

There are some, in other parts of Pennsylvania too....

By any chance are you and educator?

No, I'm not an eduacator. I wasn't able to take notes on the guided tour because I was using two cameras (the 70-200 on one, and the 10-20 on the other). I already knew about the pitcher plant, that was the primary plant I was after to shoot just because carniverous plants are so cool. The rest of the plant names I got off of Wikipedia. I wasn't able to identify the plant in the one shot (the shot with the cotton). Wikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tannersville_Cranberry_Bog

Today was the last tour of the year. No more until next Spring. You can't get in, either. It's all posted and gated. Maybe this will tie you over- the rest of my pics are here: http://velocycle.smugmug.com/gallery/2038680/1/104614481

I did some environmental education and photography for the DER a few decades ago...used to visit other bogs in Western PA... just getting back into it now...

Your photos (117) are real nice.
