Hey everyone hows it all going?
basically, im going to enter into a competition soon and need to know out of these photos which il post, to use? obv the photo needs to be good but it has to sum up what music is all about?
A couple of things i wanna ask aswell is i have been as you well know very lucky in the fact i have taken photos of Alice Cooper ( a BIG name) as well as lots of other basically unknowns, now is it better to send in a photo of a "Big name" or not? as for thwe obv reason they could look at it and say oohh big name he must be getting somewhere, Or they could say "well we dont get many big names at this venue as its smaller, so we are looking for smaller names ETC"
what do you lot think?
I Can only send in one photo, so here are some iv chosen, also im using a crappy screen so, if u think that the color could be better or whatever please let me know as il then change it, if u get me?
Also just another thought, if i submit a photo that i took at there venue would that be better?

I would choose the Alice Cooper, not because of the famous name but because it seems to have better lighting than the others.

Yup, either Alice or the Bugger!

I've been thinking of both since you first posted the images...Couldn't make my mind up till now...therefore, here is my decision...
Alice is radical enough, as is da bugger (a very original picture)...
Alice is real famous...I'd go will Alice...His picture encompasses, the rocker genre, your refined quality to present a photo...and exemplifies your professionalism to be associated (as a previous shooter) with such a name...
By the way, he (Alice C.) was at Penn's Peak this weekend...Totally, Sold out venue...I didn't buy tickets when first offered 3 months ago, ended up not going...
good luck and do decide before the deadline...

Tough call both are great shots - in this instance I'd go with "the bugger" as I think it is the better photo - if you had got all of Alice's beads in shot in his hand I would have said Alice.
BTW - great to see the Electric Eel Shock pic - I had the pleasure of seeing/shooting them earlier this year - how much fun are they?

I'm going either Alice or said bugger... the lighting or framing in the rest of the shots aren't to the same standard :)

24th of October 2006 (Tue), 16:00
Oh, yeah, by the way...where have you been, recently?
Another idea...
Wednesday the 13th, photo # one is most original of the lot...
If the Venue Mgt and or/owner, or whomever reviews these submittals, likes originality, is hip and doesn't care for old time music like Alice, than go with Da Bugger (lol, he looks a bit like one of my nephew's, that's a secret, don't tell anyone,) otherwise it's gotta be Alice C., cause of the name recognition...no one can deny the name is famous, and you've got it in a PIC...sometimes being first to submit such a famous name gets you remembered that much quicker in the selection process...others will have to match your submittal...instead of vice versa...Contest's aren't always fair, although all of mine were...

Hey James and Everybody...FYI...
Alice Cooper accidentally tossed one of the swords from his act at Penn's Peak in Jim Thorpe, PA USA, into the audience...and whom ever caught it kept it...Now there is a $500.00 reward for the willing return of the sword...He says it's fair game if you catch it, however he would like it back...
So, cut the guy a break and return his sword...

Ha HA i heard about that, personally although i dont really have much bother getting them (Touch wood) id ask for unlimated photo passes lol no money, just that oh and maybe another autograph loL.
Yeah give it back you Meaney, who ever you are.
James..
P.S im going for the Alice picture im going to send it in, in a minute, because, he sums up rock music and that is kinda what the photo has to do in the comp. Thanks for all the help, but im tired and Bald from stress lol, and going to bed.

photo wise because of the great lighting that alice had, alice is the better one but that being said, if wednesday had a bit better lighting, i would have gone with that one. where there any other stipulations for this?

Hey James
Good choice with the Alice Cooper one, its definitely the best, plus if I was looking at it as the judge I would assume that all your pics looked like that and that you had probably shot loads of big names.
What will you win, do you get to shoot at the venue?
Let us know how it goes.

Hey everyone, so i sen the Alice one in, and im still thinking i done the right thing, as earplugsrequired says if only Wednesday had mor lighting on him, but its over now, its been sent, that was horrible having to choose just one, if it were 2 i would of been sorted lol, but hopefully they will use the link in my e-mail signature and then see "The Bugger" on there.
Ears, it was just send one photo that sums up what music is all about, i thought (Fun, Energy, interaction with the fans, which in that photo i think there is, even tho he Bugger has may more energy/feeling, those beeds that Alice is holding later went into the crowd, so interaction etc) i think Alice was the way to go, so just fingers crossed.
I think Rachel, dont quote me as im not sure, but its something like u get to shoot, and your work displayed for a year! which is y i was so bloody stressed lol :( .
Thanks everyone, knew i could rely on you bunch of ledgends.

Yes James,
News travels instantly these days...The Father and twelve year old Daughter caught Alice Cooper's sword at Penn's Peak...They are from Allentown, PA...I was there this morning when I heard about them...
Apparently the sword got caught up in someone's costume and was flung out into the pit...
I was hoping it was one of those historic castle swords from Europe, worth a fortune...
I'll be at the same venue (Penn's Peak) taking pictures this weekend...
Good Luck with your submission.

Hey James,
More info on the Alice Cooper sword, from this local venue, on their evening news channel...
The father and daughter who got the sword say this today, on our news channel...
They don't want the reward...will return the sword...were offered $1000 since the news for the sword...
The 12 year old Girl says, the sword hit her in the head and her father picked it up...It was Alice C. who accidentally tossed the sword out to the audience...
They instead, will accept tickets to the next show by Alice Cooper, and a meet and greet, at end of show...The girl "Amanda Kuzmak", will ask Alice "why the sword means so much to him"...
Later...John

The news will travel fast...
Penn's Peak, where he lost his sword is owned by Pencor, who own the Area TV stations...their news broadcast Monday afternoon and evening will most likely cover the interview... The Family that caught the sword will attend Alice Cooper's show this weekend...
You might hear it in Europe before we do...

Hey, Sorry to drag this thread up again, but i thought id let you no how the comp went.
Well to sum up, i got turned down :( reason is, it was to good (i know i know, LOL) what they meant was, that it was taken from a photo pit, so i have already had photo pit experience, and that was what the prize was...
BUT
The night before what was meant to be me going down to the venue to compete in the next heat, i got a phone call.
It was the Academy, asking if i would shoot the whole even for them as there house photograper was busy helping the people in the comp etc, so basically screw the comp i got all access pass, which included photo pass for all the bands and everysong not just one like all the people in the comp, and i was shooting for the Acadmey WWOOOO HOOOO
safe to say i was extremy pleased :) :) :) :)
Just thought id let you know, Oh and 200 people entered the comp lol
All the best
Cheers
James...

Hey Guys, thanks so much, i had an awsome time there,
Dwight not sure yet il let you know if i can post some :)
i know that this will probably get loads of responce ad probably lots of debate, i hope not to much, but the 5D has loads more pixels than the 1D Mark II, But whats better for what we do? and just low light in general? at the moment im edging towards the 5D but i just dont know? can anyone help, maybe point out some good points on 1D or 5D and some bad ones aswell.
Cheers everyone

James,
I shoot both the 5d and the 1D Mark IIn.
The 1D is hands down the better camera. The focus speed and accuracy is much better. The speed is fantastic, the 5D for me is just to slow for concert photography, at 3 fms per second you will miss some shots.
The build quality is twice as good on the 1D Mark IIn. Sure you get more pixel count but the only reason you need that is if you are going to print very large. I bought the 5D to use as a portrait body and as a backup.
If I had to shoot only concert, sports and a tiny bit of portraits I'd buy another 1D Mark IIn as a backup.
Since I have started doing weddings, and a significant amount of family portraits I feel I need the 5D in order to print high quality large prints.
No doubt the 1D is by far a better camera, just go pick the two up...you will feel the difference.
